https://i2.wp.com/www.starshipchangeling.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/image.jpg?fit=421%2C421&ssl=1Just went through setting mIRC, and now I really really really love Discord.
There are multiple perspectives to this. I actually prefer mIRC, because I can make mIRC be self-voicing and I can bind hotkeys for skipping or silencing speech. So, in a high-traffic room, I can keep up with new messages better than sighted people can and respond on the fly
All I can find are the options to turn speech on or off, and the’s no spot to see messages that others have sent. Also, and most importantly, it stopped letting me into TWiT chat.
@changeling I’m kind of amazed Mirc works with Discord! LOL! You can also use Miranda NG with Discord, as well, which is a really clean experience.
@weirdwriter mIRC doesn’t work with Discord. I was saying the setup for mIRC is a pain in the ass.
@weirdwriter Also, the plugin page says it doesn’t support 2FA, so I’m not giving up security for accessibility.
@changeling oh! Good point! I’ll make an issues request on their github about that.
Are you using some kind of IRC Discord bridge?
Oh! Really? Do please tell me more! I’m kind of a tech dummy. I pretty much know which keys to hit when, but the letters are confusing to me. 😀
no. I went through the process of setting up mIRC, and now I really appreciate how easy Discord is.
OH yes; mIRC is exceedingly non user friendly. I used it for years.
It’s just extremely screen reader unfriendly. It makes web chat look like paradise.

You have to use either the jAWS cursor or NVDA’s object review to see messages.
yeah. I did get that far before it stopped letting me connect. I just can’t find where to adjust speech for incoming messages.
And it’s been years since I used mIRC so I can’t even remember. It’s not obvious, but you have to use right arrow to expand options.
well, I can’t say this is less quirky than Discord, but it’s not the friendliest thing, either.
It looks like it may have changed. I pushed the right arrow and nothing happened.
then hit down arrow to see if there are more options under it
I did because I thought it might not say anything, but there’s nothing there.
The only way I was able to see them was to use the tIRC scripts, but it wrecked my server settings.
